To the Glory of God and the kind support of 31 of our friends, we have crossed the 35.4% margin of our Fund Raiser.
However, because the economic and security situation in the country has resulted in a less than conducive atmosphere to host a large gathering at this time, we decided to use the funds to reach out to parents who participated actively in our programmes from January - July 2024, via Cash Transfer.
After a painstaking screening process, those who fall into this group were contacted on Friday, August 2024 to forward their personal details, including Account Numbers, which we have since received. So, on Saturday, 10th August 2024, 73 CP families will receive the sum of Twenty Five Thousand Naira (?25,000) only, via Cash Transfer.
For those asking why we keep doing this despite little or no support, the answer is simple: 1) The Founders of Benola are CP parents who have been on this journey for 28 years; 2) Over 700,000 persons are living with Cerebral Palsy in Nigeria with no less than 80,000 in Lagos State yet, institutional support for them and those who care for them is lacking; 3) The unique peculiarities of their condition and a high level of stigma, keeps most of them largely away from public view; and 4) Cash Transfer enables CP Parents outside Lagos State to benefit from this outreach.
Meanwhile, our sincere appreciation goes to those who continue to partner with us in our quest to change the face of Cerebral Palsy and disability management in Nigeria and indeed, Africa. May it be well with all of us in Jesus Mighty Name!
